The Office of Graduate Admission at St. John’s University oversees the admissions process for five schools: St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Collins College of Professional Studies, Tobin College of Business, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the School of Education. As a Student Worker in this office, you will have the opportunity to assist students and applicants with their applications and enrollment in graduate programs.
The primary purpose of this position is to represent the diverse academic offerings of St. John’s University and provide support to the Office of Graduate Admission. You will work closely with a team of Student Workers, the Team Leader, processors, counselors, and Assistant and Associate Director of Graduate Admission. Through this role, you will gain a deeper understanding of the functions of an admissions office and learn the importance of cooperative relationships with other offices and personnel.
As a Student Worker, your responsibilities will include coordinating office procedures and activities, communicating with prospective students, completing assigned tasks, attending staff meetings and trainings, supporting marketing efforts and events, updating files and materials, and providing coverage for the department as needed. You will also have the opportunity to enhance your skills in social media management, communication, time management, multitasking, and admissions.
To qualify for this position, related work experience is preferred, along with excellent communication and customer service skills. You should be able to work well with others, have strong computer skills, and be familiar with posting content on various social media platforms. Knowledge of St. John’s University and experience with Slate are also desirable. While experience with graphic design and social media tools like Photoshop and Canva is a plus, it is not required.
In terms of physical demands, you should be able to lift and carry items over 50 pounds and work in an office setting. The position will begin in the Fall of 2024 and end at the conclusion of the academic year (Spring 2025), with the possibility of returning for the following academic year. You must be available for training one week before and after the start/end of the semester and commit to approximately 15 hours per week, excluding university holidays and weekends.
