Amma Johnson appointed as Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Amma Johnson has been appointed as the director of the Penn State Harrisburg Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), marking a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to support startups and innovative leaders in South-Central Pennsylvania. Having earned a bachelor of science degree in marketing from Penn State, Johnson’s career trajectory has been diverse and impactful. She started in merchandising, management, and buying for department stores before transitioning into the nonprofit sector, focusing on economic and community development. Over the course of 15 years, she honed her skills in community building, from membership management and engagement to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, and building entrepreneurship initiatives.

Her experience as an entrepreneur, having launched her own fashion and accessories brand and economic development consulting businesses, gives her a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing startups in the region.

In her previous role as manager of the Harrisburg LaunchBox powered by Penn State, Johnson was instrumental in building collaborative programs and projects between the LaunchBox and local organizations. Her leadership in project management for the Invent Penn State Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work further demonstrates her commitment to supporting entrepreneurial activities across the Penn State LaunchBox & Innovation Network.
