As the director of CWRU LaunchNET for more than eight years, he played a crucial role in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. His dedication to helping others bring their ideas to life through advice, connections, and unwavering support was unmatched.

One of Sopko’s most notable achievements was spearheading CWRU’s presence at CES, the annual trade show in Las Vegas. Sopko’s belief in aspiring entrepreneurs was unwavering, as he went above and beyond to support and champion their endeavors.

Alumna India Johnson, founder of UAVistas, fondly remembers a chance encounter with Sopko at a pitch event in 2023. Despite facing personal challenges, Sopko’s words of encouragement and praise for her work left a lasting impact. His optimistic and hopeful demeanor had a way of lifting spirits and providing much-needed guidance during tough times.

Those who knew Sopko describe him as an eternal optimist, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer valuable advice.
