As the new school year begins at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, many students are on the lookout for part-time job opportunities to help cover expenses and gain valuable work experience. Carolina Dining Services (CDS) has announced that they are actively hiring students who possess great attitudes, friendly smiles, and a willingness to learn.
According to a statement provided to The Daily Tar Heel, CDS currently has numerous job openings in various roles within the UNC Dining Halls, including cashier, baker, food service, and utility positions. Additionally, there are vacancies in popular retail locations on campus such as Chick-fil-A, Subway, and Port City Java. This presents a great opportunity for students to work in a fast-paced environment and interact with their peers while earning some extra income.
For those interested in the arts and creative spaces, Carolina Performing Arts is also looking to hire usher, production, and ticket service staff. Audience Services Employee and UNC senior MK Ware highlighted the benefits of working with Performing Arts, emphasizing that it is a great way to make friends with shared interests and enjoy flexible working hours. Ware encouraged students to consider working at CPA as a means to expand their understanding of performing arts and gain valuable insights into the industry.
In addition to university departments, other on-campus jobs are available for students seeking employment. SafeWalk, a student-run organization sponsored by UNC that works closely with campus police, is currently hiring employees to provide escorted walks on request from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. This role requires individuals who are able to walk and bike several miles nightly.
UNC sophomore and SafeWalker, Shelby Fernandez, shared her positive experience working with SafeWalk, noting that it helped her become familiar with the layout of UNC’s campus. Fernandez praised the diversity of the staff, which includes students from various majors and campus groups, and highlighted the flexible hours as a major perk of the job. She mentioned that the late shifts are ideal for night owls and provide an opportunity to learn about the experiences of others at Carolina.
For students interested in exploring job opportunities on and off-campus, the Part-Time Job Fair on Thursday, August 29 in the Student Union’s Great Hall from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is a great place to start. Various organizations will be tabling at the event, offering students a chance to learn more about available positions and network with potential employers.
Overall, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill provides a range of part-time job opportunities for students looking to gain work experience, earn extra income, and connect with their peers. Whether it’s in dining services, performing arts, campus safety, or other areas, there are plenty of options for students to explore and find a job that suits their interests and schedule.
