Celebrating National Entrepreneurship Week with Workshops: A Guide to Starting Your Own Business

Liberty University’s Center for Entrepreneurship recently hosted its “Entrepreneurship Ecosystem” event on Feb. 16, as part of National Entrepreneurship Week celebrations. The event aimed to provide students with valuable insights and practical guidance on how to turn their business ideas into reality.

The kickoff event on Feb. 12 set the stage for the week’s activities, encouraging students to think creatively about potential business ventures. The main event on Feb. 16 featured six stations, each focusing on a different aspect of starting a business. Students had the opportunity to learn about market research, business planning, funding, location selection, business structure, and tax requirements from industry professionals and experts in each field.

Kristin Boyce, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, emphasized the importance of connecting students with experienced business leaders who can offer valuable advice and guidance. By sharing their own experiences and insights, these mentors help students navigate the challenges of starting a business and avoid common pitfalls along the way.

One student, Sam Bodine, highlighted the customizable nature of the event, which allowed him to focus on the specific aspects of business development that interested him the most. Bodine, a cyber security major, plans to create software that streamlines the tax process for cost segregation. He credited his classes at Liberty for preparing him for the technical aspects of his business idea.

Bodine also emphasized the importance of aligning one’s business goals with a higher purpose, focusing on glorifying Christ rather than personal financial gain. This values-driven approach to entrepreneurship is a core principle of the Center for Entrepreneurship, which aims to empower students to become godly entrepreneurs who make a positive impact in the business world.

The Center for Entrepreneurship offers a range of resources and services to all Liberty students, regardless of their academic program. From business plan development to mentorship opportunities, the center equips students with the tools they need to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors. By taking advantage of these resources, students can avoid common pitfalls and increase their chances of success in the business world.

In addition to the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem event, the center hosts various networking and development opportunities throughout the year, such as Heart and Hustle sessions and Lunch/Brunch and Learns. These events provide students with valuable insights from local entrepreneurs and business professionals, helping them to gain a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and how to navigate it successfully.

Overall, Liberty University’s Center for Entrepreneurship is a valuable resource for students looking to explore their entrepreneurial ambitions. By providing practical guidance, mentorship, and networking opportunities, the center empowers students to turn their business ideas into thriving ventures that glorify God and make a positive impact in the world.
