Global Entrepreneurship Week in Ohio featuring WeRateDogs founder and StartUp Market

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an exciting time for Ohio University as the Center for Entrepreneurship and TechGROWTH Ohio partner to provide two special events for students, faculty, and the community. These events aim to celebrate innovators, job creators, and entrepreneurs who are driving economic growth and expanding human welfare.

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Ohio University plays a crucial role in enhancing entrepreneurial education, University-based entrepreneurial activity, and regionally focused venture development in southeast Ohio. On the other hand, TechGROWTH Ohio is a significant public-private partnership that supports technology commercialization and small business incubation in the region. Together, these organizations are dedicated to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the community.

One of the highlights of Ohio University’s Global Entrepreneurship Week celebration is a talk by Matt Nelson, the founder of WeRateDogs. Taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in the CoLab (Alden 301), Nelson will share his journey as an entrepreneur. Starting his social media-based business as a college student at West Virginia University in 2015, Nelson has grown his business to have more than a dozen employees and has raised millions of dollars for animals in need through a nonprofit foundation. Attendees can expect to hear about starting and running a social media business, creating something as a student, and, of course, all the good dogs. This event is free and open to the public, with RSVPs encouraged on the provided website.

The second event during Global Entrepreneurship Week is the StartUp Market: a popup shop happening on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 3 – 6 p.m. in the CoLab (Alden 301). This event will showcase Ohio University student artists and vendors, as well as local businesses. Attendees can enjoy free food and beverages from local establishments, music by DJ AROC, and a photobooth for some fun memories. The StartUp Market is a great opportunity to support local entrepreneurs and discover unique products and services. Like the previous event, this one is also free and open to the public, with RSVPs encouraged on the provided website.

Overall, Ohio University’s partnership with the Center for Entrepreneurship and TechGROWTH Ohio for Global Entrepreneurship Week demonstrates the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the community. These events provide valuable insights, networking opportunities, and a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to showcase their talents. Whether you’re a student, faculty member, or community member, these events offer something for everyone interested in entrepreneurship and innovation.
