The DC Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Howard University has recently launched an online marketplace, providing entrepreneurs with a digital platform to showcase and sell their products and services. This initiative aims to empower small business owners by offering them a space to reach a broader audience and thrive within a supportive environment. Traditionally, online marketplaces affiliated with SBDCs have been limited to SBDC clients. However, Carl Brown, the director of the DC SBDC, has taken a pioneering approach by opening the marketplace to Howard University’s students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The marketplace, officially launched on October 1, allows entrepreneurs to list their products and services without incurring any fees or entering revenue-sharing agreements. This unique approach is designed to lower entry barriers for small business owners, enabling them to expand their reach and grow their businesses. By providing a platform for entrepreneurs to promote their offerings, the DC SBDC at Howard University is fostering a supportive ecosystem for business growth and success.
In addition to the online marketplace, the DC SBDC will offer a series of educational workshops and classes to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills and knowledge. These sessions will cover a diverse range of topics, including marketing strategies, e-commerce best practices, financial management, and more. By providing valuable resources and educational opportunities, the DC SBDC aims to empower entrepreneurs to excel within the marketplace and navigate the complexities of the business landscape.
Entrepreneurs interested in joining the DC SBDC at Howard University online marketplace or exploring its offerings can visit the official website at shopdcsbdc.com. This platform serves as a valuable resource for small business owners looking to showcase their products and services, connect with a broader audience, and grow their businesses within a supportive community.
The DC Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Howard University is part of the DCSBDC Network, an accredited program that has been in existence for over 40 years. This collaborative initiative between Howard University, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and District of Columbia small business community stakeholders aims to provide no-cost management and technical assistance, research, and affordable training to small business owners in the district. In 2021, the DCSBDC Network counseled 753 small business clients, conducted 129 webinars, and assisted small businesses in acquiring over $8.1 million in capital.
Overall, the launch of the online marketplace by the DC SBDC at Howard University represents a significant step towards empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners. By providing a platform for showcasing products and services, offering educational workshops, and fostering a supportive community, the DC SBDC is committed to helping entrepreneurs succeed and thrive in the competitive business landscape.
