Student Employment Fair for part-time job opportunities to be hosted by Eastern Michigan University in 2024

Eastern Michigan University is gearing up to host its highly anticipated 2024 Student Employment Fair, an event tailored for both new and returning students seeking part-time job opportunities on and off campus. Scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Student Center Ballroom, located at 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti, this free fair aims to connect EMU students with over 75 employers from various sectors.

The event will feature a diverse array of employers, including restaurants, retailers, hotels, healthcare facilities, daycare centers, and local businesses. In addition to off-campus opportunities, various EMU campus departments will also be present, offering a wide range of positions to accommodate students’ schedules and career aspirations. Notable participants include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Detroit office), the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Ozone House, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan.

John Carlson, the senior corporation relations manager of University Advising and Career Development Center at EMU, emphasized the importance of finding flexible employment that complements students’ academic commitments. He stated, “This fair is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a variety of part-time roles, network with potential employers, and take a significant step towards their career goals.”

To participate in the fair, students are encouraged to register through Handshake, EMU’s career platform. By logging in to the EMU Handshake portal with their credentials, navigating to the “Events” section, and searching for “2024 EMU Student Employment Fair,” students can easily register for the event. Upon registration, students will receive an email with essential event details and updates.

In preparation for the fair, students are advised to bring a copy of their class schedule to discuss availability with recruiters, a copy of their financial aid award letter (especially if eligible for College Work Study), multiple copies of their resume to share with potential employers, and a notebook with pens for note-taking. While the fair maintains a casual atmosphere, students are encouraged to dress professionally to make a positive impression on employers.
