U.S. News & World Report recently released its 2025 rankings for the “Best Online Graduate Programs,” and The University of Scranton’s online master’s degree programs in business (excluding MBA) secured the 51st spot, while its online MBA program was ranked at No. 128 in the nation. This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to providing high-quality online education to its students.
The rankings by U.S. News also delved into specific criteria categories to evaluate the programs. For the online master’s degree programs in business, Scranton excelled in the “student excellence” category, securing the 28th position. This category considered acceptance rates, work experience, undergraduate GPA of students, and other relevant factors. Additionally, in the “student engagement” category, which assessed graduation rates, class size, one-year retention rates, and accreditation by AACSB International, among other aspects, Scranton secured the 33rd spot. For the MBA program, Scranton ranked 105th for “student excellence.”
This marks the 14th consecutive year that U.S. News has recognized The University of Scranton’s online programs among the best in the nation. The methodology employed by U.S. News to determine these rankings has evolved over the years to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the programs.
In the 2025 Best Online Programs ranking, U.S. News reviewed statistical information submitted by schools to assess various criteria. The factors considered in ranking online business and MBA programs included student engagement (30 percent), peer reputation score (25 percent), faculty credentials and training (15 percent), student excellence (15 percent), and student services and technology (15 percent).
The University of Scranton offers a diverse range of online MBA degrees in specialized areas such as accounting, business analytics, finance, healthcare management, human resources management, international business, and supply chain management. Additionally, the university provides master’s degrees in fields like accountancy, applied behavior analysis, cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity, health administration, and nursing, among others, along with graduate certificates.
Apart from its online programs, The University of Scranton has also been recognized in other U.S. News publications. The university has consistently been ranked among the top 10 “Best Regional Universities in the North” for 31 consecutive years. In the 2025 guidebook, Scranton secured the 6th position among regional universities in the north and was also recognized for “Best Undergraduate Teaching,” emphasizing its dedication to providing quality education to undergraduate students.
